Superior Tube at Sea Air Space

Monday, April 2, 2018

Superior Tube, part of AMETEK Specialty Metal Products (SMP), will be exhibiting at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition being held at the Gaylord National Hotel & Convention Center in Washington DC from the 9th to 11th April. Visitors to the event can meet the AMETEK SMP team on Booth #1856.

Sea-Air-Space was founded in 1965 with the main objective of bringing together the U.S. defense industrial base, private-sector U.S. companies and key military decision makers. Now the largest maritime exposition in the country with more than 290 innovative defense and maritime companies attending, this event represents an excellent opportunity for Superior Tube to showcase its industry-leading expertise.

The company has a long history supporting the Navy, manufacturing the precision tubes used in nuclear submarines and the specialty tubing used in Navy-designed heat exchangers. In the 1950s, the company manufactured tubing for the world’s first nuclear powered submarine, USS Nautilus, and later the first nuclear aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise. Today, together with its AMETEK Specialty Metal Products sister company, the UK-based Fine Tubes, Superior Tube works very closely with its customers to develop custom-made tubing products for critical defense applications.

In the defense aerospace sector, Superior Tube supplies the hydraulic and aero engine tubing deployed in the engines and airframes of military aircraft, including the high-performance Waspaloy™ tubing for the afterburners of the F-15/F-16 Eagle fighter. For the marine sector, high performance tubing is manufactured for heat exchanger and condenser applications.

AMETEK SMP comprises of four other businesses with expertise in producing advanced metallurgical products for the defense sector. AMETEK SMP Eighty Four and Reading Alloys supply the high alloyed metal powders used in the stealth coatings on Navy vessels, thermal batteries and titanium powder for additive manufacturing.

AMETEK SMP Wallingford and Hamilton Precision Metals specialize in producing precision metal strip for aerospace brazing foil, aerospace sensors, clad plate used to make armor plate and wire for aerospace throttle.
